Web Design

As president of American Marketing Association at uToledo in 2023-24, I am recreating our chapter and have rebranded our website, following AMA Headquarters branding guidelines.

Case Study:

Let Me Breathe App (Feb. 2023)

Figma Prototype

According to Statista as of January 2021, 75.7% of college students in the States vape.

If there was a simple app that helped them to quit by keeping track of how many days they have been nicotine-free, could I save at least one pair of lungs?

Background Information:

Most people began vaping as young as in middle school; I fortunately did not grow up that way. However, I know many people who did, and I fell into the trap of nicotine and addicting flavors during university. Luckily, it was very short lived—just a few months—but it was just enough for me to still have cravings even months after quitting. This case study came from a place of empathy and the desire to keep myself accountable while helping others quit, too.

Storyboarding:

I wanted an app that would be simple, straightforward, and visually appealing, considering the demographic of college students. I ended up choosing a blue monochrome palette in hopes to sooth the user when the app is open.

Workflow:

Again, for the sake of efficiency, I kept the app's features very simple and very self-explanatory for the user.

Moving forward:

I hope to collaborate with a few engineering students from my university to make this prototype into a reality and then launch it for a test run with controlled groups. Hopefully, once that begins

What I would have done differently:
I went into this project solely out of emotion and the desire the help others. I had that drive, but I did not translate it very well to this case study. Instead of doing my research and writing down my background information, I jumped straight into prototyping out of excitement. Next time, I'll be sure to slow down and go in with a structured plan.

Commission:

Benton Consulting (June 2022)

Canva / Tangible Business Card

Background Information:

The client was starting their own consulting business, so they asked me to design their logo, business card, and Word document template.

  • Logo: They envisioned a melted candle wax seal to have their business be a metaphor that utilizing their services would "seal the deal" and make their clients complete as a business. For the font, they wanted something similar to the concept of royalty and have the letters inside the seal.

  • Business Card: They wanted their business card to stick out, be clean, and straightforward. They wanted their "3 P's" and their mission statement somewhere on the card.

Storyboarding (?):

Hitting all the key points that the customer wanted, ensuring that it would make sense to the viewer, and all while having these products become tangible objects were a challenge.

  • Logo: We went through a couple variations, combined their likes, and ended up with the red seal from above and letters above.

Final Design

  • Business Card: Once the customer realized it would be best to have the logo as is on the front of the card, coming up with the back was straightforward enough. We wanted to their contact information, of course, because the viewers of the card would be primarily potential customers, for further networking, or aspiring students. Reintroducing the logo on the back would make even the back of the card recognizable.

Moving forward:

Bowling Green State University's AMA chapter did a beautiful job of collaborating with our client to combine my works with theirs to create her a fully functioning website.

What I would have done differently:
I took way too much time on the storyboarding part of the development process. I had designs after designs that did not really need to be created, especially during the brainstorming process. Next time, I want to be more efficient with my time management.
